David E. McDowell Theatre Endowment Fund
Pastor David McDowell created Stewartstown Summer Theatre in 1980. He retired in October of 2022 after 43 summer performances and one alumni production. During this time, over 4,000 youth participated in Summer Theatre. From its modest beginnings in 1980, the theatre has grown into a vibrant community theatre, producing such musicals as Godspell, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Beauty and the Beast, Shrek, Into the Woods, and Singing In the Rain.
The endowment fund was established at his retirement to honor his dedication to bring youth from all over York County and northern Maryland together to develop lifelong friendships and the strengthen their relationship with God. Each year, a distribution from the fund is given to support the current summer theatre production. If you wish to contribute, please send a check payable to SUMC, or PayPal to churchadministration@ stewartstownumc.org or go to the church website at stewartstownumc.org and select Donate Now.
